Shaft-hub connections made of stainless steel are increasingly used across industry as component demands become more stringent and stainless steel machining has become easier. Stainless products are characterised by resistance to chemically aggressive substances, making them common in the food and packaging industries, maritime technology, laundry technology and laboratory equipment — wherever corrosion resistance and purity are important criteria. The standard grade used is 1.4122, a stainless martensitic steel with good corrosion resistance and very good wear resistance. For more aggressive environments, 1.4571 — an austenitic stainless steel with very good corrosion resistance, suitable from low temperatures up to 550°C — is preferred. Note that stainless steel products generally achieve lower transmission values than comparable products in standard materials such as 42CrMo4+QT, partly because stainless clamping screws have lower strength values than high-strength steel screws; custom solutions are available where higher transmission values are required.
