Locking assemblies (“cone clamping elements”) are internally clamping, frictional connecting elements for the backlash-free fastening of hubs on shafts. They consist of one or two conical pressure rings and one or more conical clamping sleeves. Tightening the clamping screws to the specified torque pulls the pressure rings onto the sleeve’s conical surfaces, generating radial force both inward and outward and creating a frictional connection between the element, the shaft, and the hub. Unlike externally clamping shrink discs, locking assemblies sit within the force flow, transmitting forces directly between shaft and hub. They allow reliable transmission of torque and axial force, and, depending on design, bending moments. Compliant (flexible) cone clamping elements are not self-locking and cause no axial displacement during assembly; rigid cone clamping elements can transmit higher bending moments and offer better self-centring and self-locking.
