Advantages of Hydraulic Shrink Discs
Wherever there is a requirement to connect shafts and hubs securely and quickly, the hydraulically tensionable shrink discs of type “SHS” from TAS Schäfer GmbH are used. With the SHS series, TAS Schäfer GmbH has developed a hydraulically tensionable shrink disc that is used throughout drive technology for friction-fit shaft-hub connections.

Thanks to its fast and secure clamping mechanism, this shrink disc is particularly suitable for mounting on test benches and the repetitive clamping processes involved there. However, the hydraulic shrink disc is also used worldwide in industrial applications where, for example, rapid disassembly and assembly are necessary during plant maintenance, in order to reduce downtime.

Furthermore, the SHS series impresses with its unique features, such as the low clamping pressure required, the option for customers to perform maintenance and repairs , and the ability to adapt the inner ring to different sizes .
Continuous development, the fulfillment of specific customer requirements, and the highest quality standards are essential prerequisites in modern manufacturing.

Hydraulic shrink discs have been used thousands of times for many years in a wide range of applications . Hydraulically clamped shrink discs of the “SHS” type can be found worldwide, particularly in wind turbines , cement production, hydraulic motors, and gearbox test benches . The main function of a hydraulically clamped shrink disc of the “SHS” type is to securely connect a shaft to a hub by means of friction.

For example, between a drive shaft and a hollow transmission shaft. The hydraulically tensioned shrink disc creates a backlash-free connection by pressing the hub onto the shaft. This type of connection is primarily used for transmitting torque. The hydraulically tensioned shrink disc of the “SHS” series only provides the necessary forces and does not itself transmit any forces or torques between the shaft and hub. It is therefore not part of the power flow.

The basic principle of the mechanical, three-part shrink disc has been retained in the SHS products from TAS Schäfer GmbH . This principle has been tried and tested extensively over a long period. The force-transmitting friction surfaces are strictly separated from the hydraulic system. This strict separation prevents oil contamination of these surfaces .

Compared to a mechanical shrink disc, a hydraulic shrink disc can save up to 95% of assembly time . This offers our customers enormous savings potential.
